What are the possible uses of in-house telephones?

Housephones and intercoms typically serve two distinct purposes within homes and other buildings. On the one hand, the devices are used to communicate with people at entrance doors, gates or passage locks. In some cases, access control is implemented in houses with several apartments or commercial units. On the other hand, in-house telephones are used as a means of communication among one another. This feature may not be as relevant in the age of ubiquitous smartphones. Nevertheless, it is used for improved communication and quick coordination between people in different rooms or on different floors.

In-house telephones signal the door call or an internal call. The devices are designed in such a way that the signal is received directly and played back as a ringtone/call tone. In-house telephones establish a speech connection with the connected intercom. What advantages do wireless in-house telephones offer over wired models?

A big difference is the way the in-house telephones are installed. There are wired and wireless audio intercoms. Permanently installed, wired audio systems are widespread. Can audio in-house telephones be expanded with a video function?

It is possible to add a video function to an already installed audio system, but this does not always make sense. Video systems are available in both wired and wireless configurations. Video quality may vary. Some models transmit only black and white, others color.
