KNX touch sensors are available in a wide range of designs and manufacturers offer solutions for every taste. Nevertheless, you should not be guided merely by the look. In addition to the appearance, eibabo also recommends checking the applications (parameters / functions) provided by the manufacturer for the ETS (Engineering Tool Software, software for commissioning KNX devices, which can be obtained from www.knx.org). During a project considerable deficits can become obvious. As far as the design and the look are concerned the long-term aspect should be of importance. Do not follow every trend, just to realize a few years later that the brightly colored displays for message, status and feedback LEDs on the buttons in the wall are a bit over the top. At least, it is useful to ensure that displays can be dimmed or parameterized in different brightness levels and status LEDs can be configured and switched off. A timeless surface design, for example, has simple elegance, is classy, long-lasting and has no kitschy rocker switches, which could collect dust quickly. Operating panels are not wear-free, either, and show signs of wear in some areas after a decade. Eibabo would like to encourage you to think as follows: Imagine, every day you enter a room and to switch on the basic lighting, you have to bend down and press the small rocker switch that is the second in the top left of an 8-fold push sensor. By accident you touch the adjacent rocker and unfortunately at 23:00 the blinds are activated ... not to mention how a guest or child should be able to understand all this. The advantage of KNX is the intelligence of the system, which is implemented by the system integrator using their experience and the function requirements. For this reason, functions should be flexibly assigned to buttons that can be reached easily. The first switch box is usually placed at 1.05m from the finished floor. At this point, conventional double-push buttons should be installed and connected 2 times to the bus with very cost-effective KNX push-button interface. Of course, you can also install 2 or 3 double push buttons and integrate a KNX push button interface 4-fold or 6-fold. As flush-mounted box, a deep socket box or an electronic box can be installed in order to be able to place the small pushbutton interface behind the double push button. With the conventional double push button, you have a bigger selection of switch designs and can procure replacement parts in case of defects or design changes without additional programming. This button can be used to set the most important and most frequently used basic lighting mode or to parameterize the button or the button interface with the light scene release. A nice surface-area switch can also be used easily by guests and children. Detailed circuits of the certainly many functions in a room should be activated by a room controller or multi-touch sensor with optionally integrated room temperature controller installed at 1.60m from the finished floor surface, see also the catalog multiple operator panel. A room temperature regulator already requires this installation height for optimum control. At this operator-friendly height, you can then perform all auxiliary controls for additional lighting, blinds / shutters, etc. Generally, when using KNX, single room heating control is desired. As far as the price-performance ratio is concerned, the combination buttons with room temperature controller are the best choice, also with regard to user friendliness.
